Dinner at Grasslands

Chad and I went to dinner at Grasslands recently. Chad used to work there when it was known as Fressen. The owner, Steve Gardner, rebranded and renovated Fressen as Grasslands and we were excited to see what he did.

GrasslandsThe space is very nice. The bar has been moved down to the front half of the restaurant and there’s lots of highbacked booths from privacy. I love the smell of wood in there.

Fried Oyster Mushrooms at GrasslandsTo start, Chad and I shared the Crispy Oysters, which were really oyster mushrooms, since everything is vegan.

Mustard Crusted Tempeh at GrasslandsChad had the Mustard Crusted Tempeh. I was too focused on my own meal to ask for a taste.

Skewer at Grasslands My entrée was the Skewer, which had onions, bell pepper, tofu, tempeh and mushrooms with BBQ sauce, a side of maple mash, fingerling potatoes and some roasted cherry tomatoes.

We decided to skip the dessert, Cookies and Cream, and so hopefully we can try it next time. I’m also very interested in trying the Popcorn “Chicken” from the Bar Snax menu.

All in all, it was a lovely evening. It is on the pricey side but it’s nice to have a fancy vegan restaurant in Toronto. I want to take my family there the next time they’re in town.
